My boys are active. And by active I mean they are always doing something. Busy, busy, busy. It’s just the norm around here. I’m sure little girls can be quite physically active, but as the mother of three sons I can attest that boys are very physical. I frequently wish they were less so, at least when they are pushing, shoving, poking, and hitting, but I digress.
All this “on the go” movement requires some much needed comfort for those little feet. I must admit I made the mistake of purchasing “cheap” inexpensive shoes when my eldest was little. Those shoes do not provide the proper support and stability that is needed. Now I only purchase quality shoes.
My eldest currently wears a pair of Carrson shoes from Umi. He loves them, as they are comfortable and easy to put on. Yes, my seven year old refuses to wear shoes with laces. Perhaps I am not being a good mother in this department, but frankly I don’t really care. Who needs laces? In today’s society my son could theoretically not have to wear shoes with laces for a number of years.
While I love the Carrson shoes along with my son, as I think they look great, he wants to wear them ALL the time. Sport pants, athletic pants he doesn’t care, he wants his Umi Shoes. I have tried to get him to wear another pair of shoes (sneakers) when he wears these kinds of pants, but he usually resists. I have not pushed the matter as I have learned to choose my battles.
I was excited and hopeful when we received a new pair of Umi shoes. The real determining factor would be how easy they would be to put on. My eldest skeptically viewed the new Shane shoes when I showed them to him. Obviously it was going to take a test run to try them out.
At first he wasn’t so convinced they would be easy to put on. Part of the problem is that he HAS to have his shoes just right. When he was younger we had “issues” with socks (I don’t know how I survived those years!). Now he likes to have his shoes very tight. When I showed him that he could adjust the tightness with the easy velcro straps he was intrigued.
But like any shoe it requires a good test run. As I mentioned earlier, running around the house would not prove to be an issue:)
The official report from my seven year old? He approves!
In a few weeks he will be starting basketball and will be wearing these shoes. What I love about them is that they are washable! Once they become “funky” I can just throw them in the washing machine for easy cleaning! Awesome!
I highly recommend Umi Shoes. They are obviously more expensive than your discount store finds, but they are worth it.

Moabb is my favorite for the boys. We go geocaching and you have to have a good pair of shoes. Something with ankle support is best for climbing and hiking. This pair would be perfect~!

Good luck letting your son play basketball in those. I’ve had mine for exactly one month and they are trashed. It would be so much more helpful to review the shoes after the child has worn them for a week and not just after you received them for free from the company!
Actually I did review them after my son had worm them for two weeks. While I agree the shoes are not best for basketball, my son has worn them for several months now and they are still in great shape. I’m sorry to hear that yours have not made the cut.
