Oliver’s Labels Review

A little while ago I received a set of labels from Oliver's Labels.  I have no prior experience with a professionally made label.  However, I do own a label maker.   Oliver's Labels advertises as being extra sticky and they are! I found them to be much more sticky and stylish than regular labels.   I tested out my set of labels with my 3 year old.  I picked out a cool crossbones/pirate symbol that I knew he would like.  He was eager to place a label on his shoes.  They have a special set that fits right inside shoes and helps kids learn the difference … [Read more...]

Holiday Gift Idea!- Family Talk Review & Giveaway- CLOSED

Do you need a great idea for a gift this Holiday season?  Consider a copy of Family Talk or one of its many variations- Grandparent Talk, Buddy Talk, Camp Talk, or Teen Talk. My family recently received our first copy of Family Talk and just like the title it did indeed get our family talking.  It's a simple idea.  Conversation starting questions are clipped together on a metal ring.  That's it.  Super simple.  It's the people you're with and the answers that they give that make this game fabulous.  I love learning about what people think.  The … [Read more...]

Boys will be boys

Halloween has descended on our house. Today we decorated for the holiday. This might not be a big deal to some people, but to my two boys it is a huge deal. My six-year-old didn't even want to go to school today and he is crazy about school. We love Halloween. I don't know why exactly. There is just something about all the creepiness that has always appealed to me. I know why my boys love Halloween. Pure and simple- the weapons. The last couple of years I have purchased a bunch of fake weapons and Halloween costumes for 75-90% at Target after the season. My three-year-old spent most … [Read more...]

Random Moments From My Day

Do you ever keep track of all the little odd moments in your day?  I had quite a few.  I have quite a few everyday. For instance this morning on the way into town I almost  hit a flock of about 15 turkeys.  I wish I would of had the camera, but literally there were fifteen mama turkeys hanging out on the road.  Luckily none of them ended up on my kitchen table.  My husband was conflicted.  He didn't want the van or anyone hurt, but he really loves roasted turkey:) I blew my 3 year old sons'  mind when I told him that Anakin Skywalker IS Darth … [Read more...]

Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie on the Road Review

Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie on the Road by Joel Stewart is a fun book to read.  I love books that make me smile and chuckle, and this is definitely one of them. I'm not sure what a Big Blue Beastie is , but regardless he seems like a good buddy.  Perhaps every boys needs a Big Blue Beastie to get into trouble with.  Because that is what happens in this story.  Not only can Dexter not sleep, but he feels the need to hoot.  My kids also seem to like to hoot right at bedtime.  In fact the mere mention of the word bed brings out the crazy in them.  … [Read more...]

Rearranging Toys

Do you have a toy that the kids just haven't' played with in quite some time?  I had a revelation the other day.  The play kitchen was downstairs with most all the other toys and nobody had touched it in months.  Okay that might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the point.  Anyway I decided on the spur of the moment to bring that puppy upstairs and into the kitchen.  Wham!  It is the "new" toy!  I've had countless picnics and feasts in the last couple of days and it doesn't show any sign of stopping.  Why didn't I think of this earlier?  As the … [Read more...]

Beowulf and the Dragon Review

My boys love Beowulf and the Dragon as retold by Tessa Potter.  Well obviously not the eleven month old, but the six and three year old are enraptured by this story.  But that shouldn't be surprising since people everywhere have been enjoying it for 1,200 years.  This isn't the whole story instead it focuses on Beowulf after Grendel and his mother have been defeated.  This is (as you can tell from the title) the story of Beowulf and the dragon who attacks his land.  The story is simplified and the language is modern.  The pictures feature swords and battle, but … [Read more...]
