Top 5 Family-Friendly Memberships in the Twin Cities Metro

Since moving closer to the Twin Cities metro area this summer, my boys have been reveling in all the family fun destinations the area contains.  We lived in southeast Minnesota area prior to our move, so it's not as though the Minneapolis/St. Paul was a mystery to us. But our close proximity to so many fun places is a little overwhelming.  As we started to visit various museums and attractions this summer, it quickly became apparent that it made sense to purchase a membership.  Typically in as little as two or three visits a year, the membership will have paid for itself. … [Read more...]

Bogeyman 101: A Guide to Bogeymen Around the World

Ghosts. Monsters. Vampires. Werewolves. Yeti. Bogeyman. I remember being fascinated by these mysteries of the universe when I was child.  There was a section of my school library that had a modest collection of books focused on these various topics. I was riveted.  Now, many years later, my eldest son is equally fascinated by these myths. Perhaps it is a rite of passage, or maybe it's genetic. Whatever the case may be Bogeyman 101 aligns with the current interests of my book-loving 10-year-old son.    With glimpses into the bogeyman myths across the globe, this … [Read more...]

Back-to-School Rules for Being a Kid

This post has been created as part of my partnership with Popsicle®, all opinions are entirely my own.  After Labor Day weekend school begins in the state of Minnesota. During this first month the temperature is bound to be summer-like one week and chilly the next.  And just like the variance in climate, these first few weeks of school can create a mixture of emotions. There are first day jitters and the excitement of making new friends, and the sudden shock that school is EVERY day.  There is no more sleeping in, no more endless hours of play.  It's time to … [Read more...]

Fostering Math Skills with Go Math! Academy™

I received compensation from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for writing this post. I've struggled to understand math from an early age. I'm no Einstein, but most school subjects came quite easily to me- except math. I remember my father painfully trying to explain fractions to me in the third grade. I just couldn't understand. I recall the feeling of my father's bewilderment and exasperation that I couldn't understand this obviously very useful and important concept. Since then I'm pleased to report that I finally conquered fractions as an adult when I started researching my genealogy. … [Read more...]

Easy Tunes with a SOL REPUBLIC DECK Wireless Speaker & a Giveaway

I received the following product for review purposes, all opinions are my own.   Listening to music is no longer what it once was.  My parents loved listening to their records.  On a record player.  This method of music officially fits into the antique category, yet I still distinctly remember the skip my favorite Christmas album would make as my mom and I made cookies.  When I was about ten years old I felt very "cool" to own a radio with a tape player.  I have some humorous tapes from that season of my life when I thought it was hilarious to tape my … [Read more...]

Summer Isn’t Over Yet with Rules for Being a Kid Guidebook

This post has been created as part of my partnership with Popsicle®, all opinions are entirely my own.  Back to school shopping is on my agenda and I've even spotted Halloween decorations in some stores, but summer isn't over yet! I live in Minnesota.  Let's be realistic, snow isn't too far off on the horizon.  Thankfully we have a few more weeks to enjoy summer fun. Inspired by Popsicle® Rules for Being a Kid Guidebook my little fellas have embraced the "Get Wet Rule".  They recently completed swimming lessons, but any form of water fun is their favorite. … [Read more...]

Reading Under the Stars with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

I have been compensated for this post, all opinions are my own.  The 4th of July marks the midway point for summer vacation in my opinion.  In typical fashion the season is zipping by.  Luckily there is still plenty of time for more adventures and fun.  My boys have been enjoying "discovering" their books as we unpack and move into our new house.  I knew we had quite a few books, but I can definitely confirm that we have a LOT of books after recently moving every single one of them!   As we read we are logging our minutes as part of the Scholastic Summer … [Read more...]

America’s Largest Waterpark: Noah’s Ark Waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells

I have been compensated for this post, all opinions expressed are my own. #NoahsArkDells  Our summer is a little topsy turvy this year.  We are currently in transition to a move to a new house and a new area (a Twin Cities suburb). Within this crazy time I knew my little guys would need an epic adventure. Our destination? Noah's Ark Waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells! But let me be truthful,  my little guys love a waterpark at any time.  Since they received the news they have been keeping careful count on how many days until they soak up some water induced fun. As … [Read more...]

Beat the Summer Slide with Scholastic’s Summer Reading Challenge

I have been compensated for this post, all opinions are my own.  It is official~ summer is here! My boy and I are destined to have an action packed season.  Swimming, hiking, camping plus moving and exploring a new area.  Summer is a time of almost constant motion.  But during this time of summer fun it's important to soak up quiet moments with a good book.  Who am I kidding? I'm a book fanatic regardless of the season.  And I've unabashedly encouraged this passion with my children as well. Summer, fall, winter, or spring our home is always full of great … [Read more...]

Last summer I had the privilege to be a Popsicle® Brand Ambassador and I was honored to be selected as an ambassador this summer as well.  I was delighted.  My boys? They were ecstatic.  What's better than a mom who is compelled to focus on Popsicle®'s as her job? Life truly is sweet for my little … [Read more...]

Buildable Heroes with Mega Bloks #Skylanders SWAP Force™ & a Giveaway

 I have taken a lot of pride in the fact that we have kept Skylanders out of our house.  Well, that is until recently.  But with three young boys the interactive video game toys are right up their alley.  And while the character aspect is undoubtedly cool, I didn't really want them to be so intrigued by a video game.  But if you'll notice in the character featured above, these Skylanders are a bit different, they are Mega Bloks!     Mega Bloks Skylanders SWAP Force™ heroes are Skylanders fun without any commitments.  They are build-able, … [Read more...]

Build a Customized, Cool Car with Mega Bloks Hot Wheels™ & a Giveaway {#HotWheels}

When my little guys were younger they loved playing with Hot Wheels™ cars.  But as they've become older those little cars don't see as much play time with my fellas.  It makes sense.  Older boys need a bigger challenge, they want their toys have to have more complexity. Let me introduce you to Mega Bloks Hot Wheels™.    Constructible, customizable cars for kids 5+, included with each buildable car is an action figure.   My four year old LOVES putting his little blue guy in his blue racecar.  My littlest one wasn't capable of building his own … [Read more...]

UPDATE! FEELIN’ SOFABULOUS FOR SOFABCON {#SOFABULOUS #CBIAS}

I have not been compensated for this post, however I am employed by the company mentioned. If you remember from my previous post, a group of fellow Social Fabric members are currently focusing on our goals in anticipation of the conference SoFabCon.  This is my one month status update.  Just to give you a quick refresher my goals were to log a few miles on the treadmill and to retain some peace of mind as we attempt to sell our house.  Running Well, I'm definitely not smashing any records in the treadmill arena.  I've logged three miles for the month. … [Read more...]

HAMMS – Help A Minnesota Maker Succeed Ticket Giveaway

Calling all Minnesota Mama Report readers! I love supporting Minnesota causes and I recently heard of an event called HAMMS (Help A Minnesota Maker Succeed).  One day (May 3rd, 2014 from 10am- 4pm) local vendors host a market for consumers to conveniently shop small businesses.  The philosophy of "shopping local" has been increasing in popularity across the country and HAMMS is a Minnesota twist on this idea.   This year the event is already set with a multitude of vendors selling a variety of products.  Beautiful jewelry from Tess and Tricia, yummy chocolate goodies … [Read more...]
