Chocolate? Yes, please. You certainly don’t have to ask me twice if I would like a piece. There are so many different varieties available these days. I was keenly reminded of this fact during the Easter holiday. Did you SEE the selection in the seasonal candy aisles?
Alter Eco creates organically grown, fairly traded chocolate. I like to think that this removes some of the guilt associated with eating a sweet:) Perhaps it is just wishful thinking. Most of the candy available at your local super center is not organic and it probably isn’t fair traded either. If a worldly approach to food is important to you I highly recommend all Alter Eco products.
But the real question is- how does it taste?! That really is the most important, isn’t it? It can be organic and fair traded, but if it isn’t good- why would you eat it?
I had the opportunity to sample three different flavors- Dark Quinoa, Dark Mint, and Dark Velvet. I immediately knew I had to try the Dark Mint. That green wrapper was calling my name….
I love mint flavored chocolate. This candy was fabulous and I was sure it would be my favorite. I mean, come on? How can it get better than mint?
Then I tried Dark Quinoa…..
Quinoa, in chocoalte? Yep! It was delicious. Meet my new favorite! Honestly the quinoa merely added a nice crunch that reminded me of Rice Krispies. And again somehow I felt a bit better knowing there was something healthy inside my treat. I will take whatever I can get!
And my final taste test- Dark Velvet?
I predicted this would be my least favorite bar as I prefer my chocolate to have a little something extra inside- incidentally that is why I think the quinoa variety was my favorite- I love the crunch factor! And while this was indeed my least favorite out of the three, it is still good chocolate. This variety has more milk chocolate included at only 47% cocoa. If a plain Hershey’s bar is your thing, I recommend trying this variety.
