Best Summer Dinners with Chateau Ste. Michelle Rieslings

Our summer dinner selections are a direct contrast to our winter meals.  During the winter time I enjoy creating warm, cozy soups and slow, oven roasted meats.  I throw all these comforts out the window and replace them with yummy, light grilled meals during the summer.

We don’t drink wine with every meal, but supper is a great time to relax with a simple glass of wine.  Finding a wine that compliments our meals can occasionally prove to be a challenge.   My husband and I natural prefer red wine, but the lightness of summer meals is better matched with an equally light white wine.

We recently received a selection of three different Rieslings from Chateau Ste. Michelle.  I am a big fan of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s red wines, but I had never tried their white wine selections.  We received- a Dry Riesling, Columbia Valley Riesling, and a Harvest Select Sweet Riesling.

Armed with the company’s recommendations on food pairings with each particular wine, I matched each wine with my family’s favorite summertime meals.  Pairing each unique tasting wine with a complimenting meal is important, as placing a sweet wine with a sweet meal would not being very tasty.  But having the Harvest Select Sweet Riesling with a spicy meal creates a satisfying taste combination.

For instance I paired the Harvest Select Sweet Riesling with our recipe for Glazed Bacon & Cheese-Filled Burgers.

This is a summer meal at its best.  Yummy burgers, tasty vegetables and fruit, and smooth tasting wine.

The company recommends pairing this Riesling with spicy foods such as Thai, Mexican, or Indian.  And while I have a number of recipes that would be wonderful, I decided instead to try this wine with our favorite spiced burger recipe.

For the record, I did not create this glazed burger recipe.  A number of years ago I jotted down the recipe, but I have no idea where I got it from.  But please don’t think that I’m creative enough to actually originate this recipe:)

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the taste of the Harvest Select.  It is by far the best Riesling we have ever had.

“Our Harvest Select Riesling is made in a slightly sweeter style than our ‘Columbia Valley Riesling’ but still shows the elements of classic Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling. It offers beautiful crisp Washington Riesling character with rich flavors of ripe pears and peaches. The fresh fruit punch and richness is balanced with crisp acidity to keep the wine in harmony. This is a perfect patio sipping wine or would be a great match with Thai food.”

I also recommend the Dry Riesling with grilled tri-tip steak.  Simply season with pepper and seasoning salt (Lawry’s) and you have a delicious and easy summer meal!

“The Chateau Ste. Michelle Dry Riesling is a crisp, dry and refreshing style of Riesling. It exhibits fresh fl avors of white peach and mandarin orange, and ends with a clean finish. This is an incredibly versatile food wine and my favorite with oysters.”

And as for the Columbia Valley Riesling I would recommend a recipe of fish (red snapper) baked in foil with zucchini ribbons.  (This is so easy and delicious!)  Simply cut veggies (yellow squash/zucchini) along with mushrooms and place into aluminum foil with olive oil and fresh thyme and grill!  This Riesling would taste great with almost any meal, but our light fish meal is a perfect fit!

“Our Columbia Valley Riesling is a blend of Riesling from throughout Washington’s Columbia Valley. We craft it to be a refreshing, off-dry Riesling vintage after vintage. The wine delivers sweet lime and peach character with subtle mineral notes. This is our “any day Riesling” that is a pleasure to drink and easy to match with a variety of foods.”
