Cinnamon Jelly Heart Cupcakes

This past week we experienced what they call a polar vortex. Deadly cold temperatures, school canceled for four days straight. It was a good time to snuggle indoors. Luckily I had these cupcakes already prepared much to my youngest son’s delight. The sight of sprinkles and candied Valentine hearts with frosting and cake immediately puts him in a good mood. 

I used an ancient white cake recipe from one of my old church cookbooks. They can be so fun to look through and actually have some great recipes, especially those involving baked goods. 

I decided to use the cake recipe to make a few larger-sized cupcakes, but mostly bite-sized ones. If you are looking for an easy and quick recipe for Valentine’s Day treats this is definitely a good idea. Like my youngest son I think kids are mostly impressed by great visuals, not necessarily the most complicated ones. Therefore this recipe isn’t likely to impress the adults in your life, but is sure to please little ones. 

I used Brach’s Cinnamon Jelly Hearts as the centerpiece of each cupcake, but you could easily use anything else. I halved the cinnamon hearts as I found them to be too big otherwise. 

Old Fashioned White Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Oven Temp- 350 dgrees

    Mix eggs and sugar. Add rest of ingredients. Mix and bake until toothpick inserted into cupcakes comes out clean. Approx. 10 minutes.
