Duchy Originals Review & Giveaway

“What can I have to eat?”

“Mom, I am hungry.”

“What are we having for supper?”

“When are we having supper?”

These questions are just a few of the food related ones I encounter everyday. I imagine most parents experience the never-ending “I’m hungry” statements and questions. One of my favorites is the “I’m hungry” about 5 minutes after finishing a meal! I think I could understand that if I were raising teenage boys, but I have young girls. Needless to say, we are always in search of healthy and unique snacks.

We received 4 boxes of Duchy originals from Waitrose snacks.

Lemon All Butter Shortbread

Highland All Butter Shortbread

Stem Ginger All Butter Shortbread

Original Oaten Biscuits

All-natural Duchy Originals from Waitrose cookies from the brand founded by HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, are being introduced in the U.S. this month. Traditionally baked by Walkers Shortbread in the Scottish Highlands, they will be available initially through WalkersUS.com and then in gourmet and natural food stores. The new line adheres to the brand’s commitment to produce a product that “Is Good, Does Good, Tastes Good.”

My oldest daughters were very excited to try these new snacks as they resembled cookies… and my daughter’s have all seemed to have developed my sweet tooth. As they tried each of the varieties, I have to say the reactions were fun to watch. By far, the Lemon All Butter Shortbread was their favorite. They have both requested the snack in days since first trying it.

The other varieties were not as popular and I personally felt the snacks were exactly what I expected. Shortbreads are generally a drier type of product in my experience and generally do not have an overpowering flavor. I did not dislike the snacks, but I don’t think I’ll be seeking them out again… unless my daughters request them.

A fun fact: Duchy Originals products were created by Prince Charles to raise money for charities around the world. The products originate largely from his organic farm in the south of England. It’s been very successful – raising approximately $15-million so far.
