We enjoy eating a traditional Easter feast- ham, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and deviled eggs. But once the formal meal is over, it’s time for our go-to evening meal. Thanksgiving has turkey sandwiches and of course, Easter has ham sandwiches. Typically my family purchases a ham large enough to provide meals for almost the entire week after Easter. Sure, you can create all sorts of various dishes with ham, but my fellas just prefer a simple and tasty sandwich. There must be something innately primal for males in regards to sandwiches….well, at least this seems to be true at my house.
Typically our bread of choice for these sandwiches are rolls. But this year we opted for an artisan variety from Ecce Panis. I thought it would be standard French bread. But luckily, I was in for a bit of surprise. Ecce Panis bread needs to be baked for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. These magic few minutes in your oven make for seemingly fresh, crispy bread. And it is that crispy outside and soft inside that puts this bread on a level all by itself.
Why have plain, boring bread or rolls when you can have warm, delicious, crispy European Baguettes? Easter evening we feasted upon this tasty bread with our ham, but of course it makes for a delicious sandwich with anything. And what is particularly great is that I can freeze the loaf to use when needed. And each loaf has no preservatives, no trans fats, and no fat or cholesterol.
I love how fast and easy it is to make a delicious sandwich. The bread turns a nice golden brown within minutes.
We’ll be noshing on these yummy sandwiches this week. Yes, I’m bound to make split pea & ham soup as well, but invariably I’ll have a perfect crusty bread to serve with that too!
While I made large sub-like sandwiches for the adults, I used the European Baguette to make perfectly sized sandwiches for the kids. This method would work well for entertaining large crowds as well. Simply prepare a massive sandwich and cut it into perfect sized take & go portions.
While my youngest son might have dismantled his sandwich, whichever way you decided to eat this bread it’s delicious. #EccePanis
What are you eating this week? Will you be using leftover Easter ham?
