Giada De Laurentiis for Target Review

If you read The Mama Report on a regular basis I’m sure you’re aware of my love for Target.  I shop there on a weekly basis, sometimes actually more than once a week.  Can you ever get enough of a good thing?  I was excited to see a new line of products some time ago,  Giada De Laurentiis for Target.  I am familiar with the Food Network chef from her appearances on the Today show where she showed off her cheerful, positive attitude and of course, her culinary skills.  It was recently announced that she will be the the official chef to Prince William and Princess Kate when they visit California.  How exciting!

Her sophisticated line of pasta ingredients and cookware has a fresh and modern look and I was very excited to test some of her products.

First Herb & Lemon Dipping Oil (there is also a Chile Dipping Oil available)
I don’t normally purchase dipping oils, but my family loves them when we dine out.  For a special Father’s Day treat I purchased some crusty  bread and we tried our hand at this Lemon & Herb dipping oil.

This dipping oil is slightly different from others that I have tried as it not only has oil, of course, but also vinegar.  I am not a vinegar fan and therefore I was not wooed.  However,my vinegar loving husband and Nana were smitten.  They kept going back for more.  I even saw Nana take a spoonful WITHOUT bread.  Now that’s love!

Our next two products to test were Parmesan Garlic Vinaigrette and Galletti (enriched macaroni product)

I combined the two together to make my own pasta dish.  I tried to find recipes for these products, but it appears there are none available.  There was a recipe on the back of the pasta box, but it only used the pasta and no other Giada ingredients.  I made this dish up with items I had in my cupboard and it was delicious!  My husband finished off the entire bowl and it was so easy to make.  I simply added Parmesan Garlic Vinaigrette (as much as you like), grilled chicken, Kalamata olives, fresh spinach, and Parmesan cheese.   Check it out!

And my final product to sample was Genovese Basil Pesto.  It wasn’t exactly fair for my family to sample this jarred pesto, because our Nana makes her own recipe from scratch.  It is pretty hard for jarred anything to compare to homemade.  The Genovese Basil Pesto was good.  I used it by mixing it with some pasta and by spreading some on the dipping bread.  By jarred pesto standards, it was very good, but it just couldn’t measure up to Nana’s original.

Overall I was very impressed with the Giada De Laurentiis food line for Target.  I found the products to be easy to use, however I would love Giada to provide some more recipes with her products.  Perhaps after she is done taking care of the Price of Wales and his new bride!

I received the above mentioned products for review purposes all opinions are my own.

  1. I love your pasts creation. I hadn’t seen these yet, but now that my mouth is watering, obviously I’m going to have to try a few- not pesto though. I’m probably the only one who doesn’t like it, but just never developed a taset for it! Maybe I need to try Nana’s?:)
