Mexene Chili & Louisiana Hot Sauce Review & “Chili Champ” Gourmet Gift Pack Giveaway

Typically it is absolutely freezing here in good ol’ Minnesota this time of year.  This has been an unusual season indeed.  I’m not even sure it has been below zero, how strange.  Normally this time of year I enjoy making soups and stews.  Though I must admit with the weather being the way it is, it is hard to feel cozy and therefore I’m not so inspired to cook these kind of meals.

I recently received a package from Bruce Foods that included Original Louisiana Hot Sauce, Mexene® Chili Powder and Mexene Chili Seasoning Mix.  I like to check out the ingredient list on anything that is mixed. Everything sounded good.

I browned some hamburger and diced onion in a skillet and then added the seasoning package to the mixture.  It was super easy.

I placed the seasoning mix in a bowl just so I could have a chance to check it out before I added it to the meat.  The seasoning was more chunky then those I’ve used before, but I thought this was a good sign, as the flavors would be even better.

I also added some extra seasoning to the skillet to give it a little extra kick, however I did not add any of the hot sauce.  I am not much of a hot sauce fan, I knew my husband would have to be the real judge of its flavor.  He could merely add this condiment after the chili was made.

Overall we found the chili not to be as flavorful as we expected.  We like a lot of spices and flavor to our dishes and this just seemed to be missing something.  My husband however did enjoy the Louisiana Hot Sauce.  Just as I suspected he added a large dose to top off his chili.

Here is my quick chili recipe.

1 lb hamburger

1/2 onion, diced

1 can kidney beans, drained

1 can tomatoes, diced

Mexene Chili Seasoning Mix- and extra chili seasoning for added flavor

We also add a variety of toppings to provide extra taste.  Some sample ideas include cheese, green onions, olives…..the options are limitless.

And while we didn’t particularly care for the chili seasoning, clearly many people do.

Created in 1906, Mexene features only the highest quality sun-ripened pre-frost chili peppers blended with cumin, oregano, and garlic. Just take a pinch between your finger and thumb, rub, and smell the delicious aroma. Mexene® Chili Powder is called “The Chili Champions’ Choice” and is endorsed by CASI, The Chili Appreciation Society International. Mexene is the secret ingredient used in the past eight winning recipes from the World Championship Chili Cookoff in Terlingua, Texas.
