This post is in collaboration with Disney-Hyperion in support of Mo Willems new book, ThankoRama.
I remember when I read my first Mo Willems book to my boys, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. My little guys kept bursting into giggles and I was equally as entertained. Mo Willems makes animal characters come alive with a simple, witty dialogue that breaks down the third wall of traditional children’s books. It’s just hard not to laugh when you read his books.
The newest addition in the Elephant & Piggie series has Piggie attempting to thank everyone he possibly can. Elephant is sure he’ll forget someone important and attempts to remind him along the way.
I love the message of kindness and gratefulness that is expressed in the book. Of course my little fellas love the silliness.

Gerald is careful. Piggie is not.
Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can.
Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to.
Gerald and Piggie are best friends.
In The Thank You Book!, Piggie wants to thank EVERYONE. But Gerald is worried Piggie will forget someone . . . someone important.
I decided to make some Elephant & Piggie Banana Cupcakes with some tattoos that I received. These treats make for a nice snack for summer reading. Or they would even be perfect for an Elephant & Piggie themed party! As mentioned I already happened to have tattoos, but you can print out images of Elephant & Piggie to use as cupcake toppers as well. If you are having a party or would just like more interactive Elephant & Piggie goodness checkout the Thankorama site. Additionally here are the links to connect on Twitter & Instagram as well.
The Banana Cupcakes recipe was super simple and my littlest loved placing Piggie & Elephant on top of each creation. I used a buttercream icing kit, but made the banana cupcakes from scratch. I’ve listed the recipe below for you to recreate!
- 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1 3/4 cup flour, dash of salt, 3 mashed bananas, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Cream sugar and butter. Add egg. Fold in bananas. Add baking powder, salt and flour. Spoon into cups and bake. 350 degree oven.
My middle son was inspired by Piggie’s commitment to thanks and offered up his thanks to our family as well:) Your kids can do the same! Just print out these pink and grey speech bubbles and let them express their thanks online as well. Grandma will be crazy happy when she sees her grandkids expressing thanks in a cute picture, easy Facebook win. Ha, ha:)
