Most products that I review at The Mama Report are new to me, this review is entirely different. Nana has been fanatical about Wüsthof knives for years. I’m not kidding. I have never met a woman so passionate about knives before. She preached to my husband and I for years about their superiority, before we finally broke down and purchased one …… and then another.
They really do cut smoother than any other I have used. You might be thinking if a knife cuts, it works. Well at least that was my philosophy before I tried Wüsthof. There are no pictures that can accurately show how well the knives work. And a video really can’t capture its ability either. I was tempted to recreate one of those bad 90′s vidoes that shows how easily a knife can cut through a can and other random items. But what in the hell do I need a knife to do that for?
I need my knife for more practical purposes. In this instance carrots. Beware. This is a sharp knife. Crazy sharp. Don’t look the other way while cutting. Notice the band aid. Luckily no doctor’s visit was required.
The only way to truly understand the superiority of Wüsthof knives is to try them for yourself. Isn’t that usually the case for most things? Not only is it the clear precision cutting that the knife provides, but it is also the weight and design that are important. And to experience these features, you just need to give a try.
But which one? Wüsthof makes a wide variety of styles and sizes. It can be a little overwhelming. The knife I’m using in the pictures is a 6 inch Cook’s knife. I find this to be a great all-purpose knife. I also own a Santoku knife which I would highly recommend. Both of these knives are handy to have in the kitchen as they cut so many different items with ease.
Wüsthof has been around since 1814 and I might be biased as I have German ancestry, but I think they have conquered all competitors.

Not only do I not have a Wusthof knife, I have never even heard of them. I preach to friends about the necessity of using sharp knives. I would like to report that they pay heed but that does not usually happen. I hate working in their kitchen with inadequate knives.

My aunt gave us a set of Wustoff knives (I think they are co-branded with some famous chef) and we’ve enjoyed using them. They are very sharp. Gotta watch that and they are a little lighter than I would normally expect, but they are probably easier to use for longer periods of time because of that.

I have a set of their knives and steak knives and they’re fabulous. My mother bought them for me as a gift 12 years ago and they still rock. She has a set that’s about 15 or 20 years old that is still great. I do use a professional sharpening tool about once a year on them.

I have used Wusthof knives before in my parent’s kitchen. They are very nice and lighter than any knife that I own. It makes cutting easier since your hand doesn’t get as tired as easily from a heavy weight knife.
