It was with much anticipation that a m9 Memory Foam Series Sleep Number bed was delivered to my house a little over two weeks ago. I had performed my research in store. I knew my husband and I were in for a life altering experience. Our current mattress, at only eight years old, had a definitive “hump” in the middle and permanent impressions that my husband named our “Action Hero poses”. Not exactly what you want from a mattress.
I was eager to find my perfect Sleep Number number. With two remotes (they are wireless) my husband and I could each find the setting that worked best for us. My in-store experience made me believe that a relatively low number would be my preferred setting. The knowledgeable employees that installed the mattress in our home warned me that it could take a number of days to find a number that truly worked for me.
That first night I set our bed at the 35 setting on both sides. I was fairly confident I knew what my setting should be. Um…yeah. I’m not going to lie, that first night was rough. Not only was the bed soft, but it was also foam. Memory foam. Sure, I already had a memory foam pillow, but I had certainly never slept on an entire bed of memory foam. Adjusting to the memory foam along with a personal incorrect setting of 35 made for an uncomfortable night’s sleep.
The next night, I increased our settings to 45, as my husband too needed some adjusting. Still too soft. The next night? We tried 50. Hmmm..still not quite there. The next night? Seventy. Yes, we took it all the way to 70. Now we are talking. I slept at this setting for a number of nights and then I decided I wanted just a tad bit more, so I changed it to 75. And that is the setting I have been at for almost two weeks now. At this point in my experience, I consider the bed mine. It’s comfy, it’s cozy, and it’s just right. And it appears I am not the only one with this experience, as my husband announced to me the other day while reading in bed, “I love this bed”!
So now we are comfortable. Now we are set. I have officially found my Sleep Number setting. But of course, what makes Sleep Number beds a cut above the rest is that my Sleep Number might change. It is very likely that I might attempt to go sleep one night and find that 75 doesn’t work for me anymore. Unlike a typical bed that doesn’t change, I can easily adjust my Sleep Number to how I how feel on that specific night.
And here’s the best news yet. I can adjust my bed every single day for the next 20 years. Unlike typical mattress which only have a life expectancy of about 10 years (or less than eight in my old mattress’ case) Sleep Number beds have a limited warranty for 20 years. Most people do not own a car for twenty years. Unfortunately a lot of people are not married that long either:) In 20 years my current life will be none existent.
Look at these guys. They are my world. They are cute, adorable, and tiny. Currently they are 8, 5, and 3. When my husband and I start thinking about replacing our Sleep Number bed they will be 28, 25, and 23. Holy crap! They will have graduated college, they could be married, and they could have children of their own. I could be a grandma by the time I need to replace this mattress!!!!! And now I’m crying……oh dear. I’m crying over a Sleep Number mattress review.
Okay, I can’t think about that anymore. Typically longevity is a good thing, but when I start thinking about my babies……yeah- the whole mother thing takes over:)
