I am no novice Apple user. My iPad is full of fun apps for me and my kids. I knew once I purchased an iPad our kids would want their own special time with this handy device. As a mom it is my job to fill our tablet with appropriate games and books. I have endeavored not to load our iPad with meaningless app games. (Though I must confess we do own Angry Birds- there is no denying that obsession)
I have a wide selection of apps including educational games and books. However up until recently I felt I was missing something for my boys. What I was looking for was an app that had a plethora of books and games that were appropriate for them all within that one particular app. Yes, I had a bookshelf, but I never found a way to make that feature kid friendly. Little did I know what I was missing was- BelugaBoo. As soon as I downloaded the BelugaBloo app I quickly realized this was the easy interface with a multitude of options I was looking for .
The BelugaBloo app itself is free. And within the app there are a number of free book and game selections. The service is also available via Google play.
There are also a number of books and games that are available for purchase. Most are available for .99 cents. Within the app you can search for material via the categories below.
Also included is an entire section of religious books. I think it can be difficult to find religious apps for children, but BelugaBloo has several options.
But what are the games/books like? Here is my current bookshelf.
Each book or game has its own distinct features and interactive nature. When I showed the bookshelf to my three boys (ages 8, 5, and 3) they quickly starting discovering each and every book. (They love books!)
With colorful graphics and interesting stories my boys were riveted. (The Three Little Gators featured below)
I love the fact that each story comes with the option to read by myself or read to me. My eldest son can read, but my younger two need the read to me feature. Regardless the story is also full of interactive fun.
I have a confession. My favorite game was the Lullaby Piano Book. I imagine little girls especially will love this portion if they want to play the piano.
This app makes it super easy to play familiar musical nursery rhymes.
Simply press the letter as directed. I may or may not play this app at night when the kids aren’t even around:) No, I don’t play the piano and yes, I’ve always wanted to. This app lets me have a little fun of my own:) LOL
There are also flashcard games to help little ones learn in a fun way. Colors, letters, numbers are all presented in a fun interactive nature that truly resonates with children.
This app is great for snowy days stuck indoors and for long distance car trips.
There is even a section with Discovery Channel material geared for children 9+. My five and eight year old especially love this science based information. This slide even comes with a short video of a volcano. Love it!
I would love to see a dinosaur portion to the Discovery Channel options.
What is especially great about BelugaBloo is that they there is more to come! New books and games are added on a regular basis. My boys and I can’t wait to see what books will be added next!
Also of note- the app is available in Spanish or Chinese.
