Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure Book Review & Giveaway

The second book in the new Cooper and Me series for 4 – 7 year olds, Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure. In the book, co-written by 13-year-old Alexa Peters and her mom, Monique Peters, Cooper and his canine companion, Bella, wander a little too far from home while playing in the snow and become lost.

Alexa and Monique created Cooper and Me to help teach little kids important life lessons that build emotional resilience. This storybook provides an ideal opportunity for parents to talk with children about the importance of making good decisions and being aware of their surroundings. At the back of the book, there is a multi-level Learning Together component with questions that encourage children to discuss and reflect on the story. Beyond the book, the Cooper and Me website, www.cooperandme.com, offers a comprehensive, interactive virtual community with fun winter-themed activities plus an Information About Me! page where kids can write down vital information they would need to know in an emergency, and other important tools to keep kids safe in a variety of situations.

Continuing Alexa and Monique’s passion for giving back, $1 of every Winter Adventure book sold through February 2012 will be donated to the Lustgarten Foundation, www.lustgarten.org. The Lustgarten Foundation is America’s largest private foundation dedicated solely to funding pancreatic cancer research.

I recently received a second Cooper and Me book. I love these books! The books have a moral behind the story and also give some thought provoking questions or discussion points.

The most current book I received was Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure. This story is about getting lost and what to do to get home safely.  It makes both parents and children alike think about what happens if said child gets lost. This did hit home with me because as a small child of about 4 or 5 I did get lost when my great aunt was watching me.  It also got me thinking about what would happen if one of my children happened to become lost. After reading the book my 5 year old son and I had a long discussion on getting lost, how to avoid getting lost (if possible), and if you do get lost how to get home or who to trust. My son is sure it will never happen to him and I hope he is right!

If you want fun stories that have good illustrations and meaningful stories I would go to www.cooperandme.com and check it out!
