I’m scared to write this.  I don’t want to jinx myself.  But we have not had the flu this winter season- all five of us.  There is still plenty of time left to be plagued by flu-like systems.  I have the distinct memory of being horribly sick on Easter weekend a few years ago.  Again, I’m going to knock on wood, throw salt over my shoulder, or perform any other form of silliness to ensure we don’t get sick.

But I’m also practical and sensible.  I know there are actions my family can take to attempt to stay healthy.  Sure, nothing is guaranteed.  Sometimes no matter what you do, the flu bug is going to get you.  But I like to remain pro-active and at the very least do what I can.  So what is a mom to do?

1.  Wash those hands!  This is an obvious solution, right?  Make those germs go away the best way possible- just wash them down the drain.

2. Vitamin C  This basic vitamin may provide extra protection against immune system deficiencies.  I believe the jury is still out on this verdict, but we load up on Vitamin C within reason, because it certainly isn’t going to hurt us.

3.  Take a daily probiotic.  I must confess this is a new method for my family.  But probiotics have been shown to support natural defense system and promote overall health.  Yes, you can digest probiotics by eating certain kinds of yogurt or other items.  But sometimes it is just easier to receive this added benefit in pill or packet form.

My kids have started taking Culturelle® Kids Probiotic Packets and Chewables.   The packets are available for younger children who weigh between 25-50 lbs and the chewables are available for children that weigh between 50-100 lbs.

Adding the packet to my younger son’s water, milk, or juice is easy.  They actually think of it as a special treat.

Containing Lactobacillus GG this flavorless and 100% dairy & gluten free product is an easy way to help protect my children from unwanted illness.

I must confess, I’ve even tried the chewable form myself.  It is relatively flavorless with a slight berry flavor.  My eldest son can take one, once a day with his other vitamins.

As a busy mom, I feel as though I need to grasp on to anything that can potentially keep my family healthy and on track.  No one wants to be sick, nor has the time to take away from their other responsibilities.
