Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent With Enzymes is free of:

  • Chlorine
  • Phosphates
  • Fillers
  • Fragrances

Ultra concentrated!

Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent is non-toxic and environmentally safe with no harmful by-products upon decomposition. Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent does NOT contain chlorine, phosphates, fillers or fragrances. Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent rinses away completely leaving no residue on your dishes so you get a clean, safe sparkle.

Contains absolutely no phosphates!

The concept behind this dishwasher detergent is attractive: a non-toxic and environmentally-safe alternative to regular dishwasher detergents that does not contain any chlorine, fillers or fragrances. I am all for it.

The packaging is somewhat stark: a five-pound plastic cylinder with a white label featuring black-and-white type and just a spot of color with the “Household Traditions” logo at the top. The aesthetic is not immediately appealing to me, however, it is possible the packaging is purposefully extremely simple to reinforce the “clean, simple, no additives” idea.

Using the dishwasher detergent packaging proved a little challenging compared to the detergents I am used to that come in tablet form or in a box with a pour spout. Admittedly, the screw-off top was awkward, as was digging around in the jar to find the scoop to be able to put the powder in my machine. Powder form, in any brand, is also inherently somewhat messy.

The performance of the detergent was good: it equaled any of the national brands I have used recently, even those that earned high marks in consumer publications. Glass items looked reasonably clear, no residue was left behind, and only those dishes that went in the dishwasher with dried, gummed-on food came out less than clean. This meets my expectations: I do not expect my detergent to magically rip off practically cemented-on food.
