Qubo is the TV channel with the quirky name that every parent and child should know about, especially since it’s free on basic cable. Qubo believes that quality entertainment—good fun—can help motivate kids to become better friends, family members and teammates and improve their view of the world. Qubo’s children’s programming showcases characters that are positive role models and features teachable moments, such as learning the difference between right and wrong, the importance of non-judgment, how to form lasting friendships and how to be respectful and kind. With such favorite, classic programs as “The Magic School Bus,” “Babar,” “Shelldon.” “Turbo Dogs,” “Willa’s Wildlife,” “Pearlie,” and “Jane & the Dragon,” Qubo offers a fun, safe place for children to learn and for families to enjoy watching TV together. And speaking of the classic TV shows that many of us grew up watching, Qubo also offers programming through “Night Owl” – late night programs that include retro cartoons such as “He-Man,” “She-Ra,” and “BraveStarr”.Qubo truly is a channel that everyone – little kids and the “big kids” in all of us – can enjoy!
One more great thing about Qubo is that it is available 24/7 on many providers through cable or the cable converter box. The channel is free on basic cable however it is just not in every home. Hopefully your readers will petition their service provider to carry it if it’s not available in their area so they too can start watching and enjoying Qubo’s shows.

I grew up on a farm in eastern North Dakota. We did not have a lot of TV stations. And by not a lot I mean four. We had PBS, CBS, ABC, and NBC. That’s it. I didn’t even understand that my friends (who lived in town) were watching all these different television shows on this wonderful thing called CABLE TV. Believe me when I tell you how surprised I was to discover the multitude of other stations when I moved from home and went to college. I spent the next four years immersed in MTV. I had a lot of lost time to make up.
Even though I had only four TV stations as a kid I still enjoyed Saturday morning cartoons. I remember racing to the TV to watch some of my favorite cartoons in my pajamas. My tastes evolved through the years. Some of my favorites were Smurfs, Scooby-Do, The Ghostbusters, and The Care Bears. As an only child I didn’t need to share my TV viewing time with a sibling. Boy shows were of no interest to me then, how ironic since now I have three little boys. Through my husband and especially through my sons I have become of a fan of some of the older boy’s shows. He-Man is HUGE at our house. “I have the power” is used on a weekly basis. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Shame on you. You need to learn about Prince Adam and Sorceress.
TV today is so much more educational then it was in my day. Or at least it seems that way. Sure we had Sesame Street too, but that was about it. Today there are so many shows brimming with educational value. Between the Lions, WordGirl, and The Magic School Bus are just a FEW of the many learning based shows. I love knowing that my children are having some fun TV time, but are also learning.

My favorite cartoon as a kid was good ol’ Bugs Bunny and Road Runner. We didn’t have cable either so we played outside more than we watched tv.
I think Sid the Science Kid is one of the best children’s tv shows on today and my kids love it.

It’s not really a kid show, but I loved “Gilligan’s Island” when I was little and I still love it.
I’m not sure what I would recommend for children to watch on TV today. I feel like most of what’s on PBS would be safe and some of the science and history programming on cable networks like Discovery.
