Have I mentioned I love a good bar? There are soooo many varieties available these days I must not be alone in this opinion. I have had some that were “fake” tasting. By “fake” I mean heavy on artificial sweeteners. Yuck. I actually have written a couple of reviews for a particular company (I won’t name names, but if you read my review of these products I do discuss that I don’t like them and why) that has developed a low calorie alternative that just has a heavy artificial sweetener taste.
When I’m eating a bar or even more specifically a protein bar I want it to taste good and provide nutrients. That isn’t asking a lot is it? I sure don’t think so. I recently had the opportunity to try three different varieties of Supreme Protein bars and I’m pleased to say that these bars delivered.
I had seen these protein powered bars in the store before (they are available at CVS, Wal-Mart, Walgreen’s, GNC, and thousands of other retail locations), but I had never given them a chance. I have been missing out! They make for a great pre-run energy snack and provide me with the extra energy I need. Heck, I don’t need them just to run, I need them to get me through the day with my three little energetic boys. Chaos and high energy is the norm at my house. Perhaps you have a home that is calm, quiet, and filled with polite, dainty little girls, but my house is a romping, wrestling, testosterone driven machine. I digress.
Let’s take a look at the three bars I sampled.
Yep, they are as good as they sound. Caramel, chocolate, peanuts,….what’s not to love? I felt like I was eating a candy bar and not a protein bar. Score! A nutritious snack that doesn’t taste like cardboard! I could easily eat one of these a day. Perhaps you have never heard me mention my unfailing love for caramel? Along with peanut butter and chocolate, caramel is one of my favorites. This is the only way to enjoy my favorite ingredients without any of the guilt!
More caramel goodness! This time with pretzels and peanut butter. Another winner! My kids have been eying these bars on my desk since I received them and I totally understand why. They look like candy bars and they taste like candy bars. I am not a huge meat eater and I love knowing that my body is getting some much needed extra protein with every bar (15g to be exact!).
Peanut butter and jelly in bar form? I was excited by Caramel Nut Chocolate. I thought Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist was delicious, but must admit I was very skeptical about peanut butter and jelly. Luckily my husband was game. He was intrigued and readily grabbed a bar to sample. His thoughts? He liked it! Okay, then I had to try it! It tastes like……peanut butter and jelly. It truly does taste like the sandwich. And it is good, but I just don’t think this particular bar is for me. I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but I’m not quite ready to eat them in bar form. I’ll just stick to my other favorites for now!
Three lucky Mama Report readers will win a box of Supreme Protein bars!
I received the above mentioned product for review purposes, all opinions are my own.
