Sol Duc Falls, Olympic National Park, Washington

Can you tell we are a hiking loving bunch? All my vacation posts seem to revolve around hiking.  But there are so many awesome hikes available in the area we have had a great time seeing all the natural wonders.  Our last day in the La Push area brought about a trip to the Sol Duc Falls.  These easy hike led us to a spectacular view.  I actually enjoy walking among the trees more than seeing the falls themselves.  The trees in this area are humongous.  It is easy to feel like a minion among giants. Happy hikers! Killing time waiting for the other hikers.  My six year old … [Read more...]

Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park, Washington

Our next adventure while staying at La Push was a visit to Rialto Beach to see the tide pools.  A long walk along the beach rewarded us with close-up views of spectacular sea life.  My boys loved it.  I had the feeling they could have spent hours looking at all the different starfish, crabs, and sea anemones.  This is certainly something these Minnesota boys can't see on a regular basis.   Next on our adventure, Sol Duc Falls. … [Read more...]

Hoh Rain Forest, Olympic National Park, Washington

One of our day trips while staying at La Push was the Hoh Rain Forest.  I've never seen so much moss!  Actually it was my first official visit to a rain forest.  It was amazing to see this unique environment.  Perhaps the most exciting event was our discovery of a banana slug.  This disgusting creature has the unique ability to render one's tongue numb when it is licked.  Yes, my husband licked a banana slug.  I'm so proud (can you detect my sarcasm?).  I can't say that he didn't seize the moment, that's for sure! What a great example he is setting for my nephew who is peering upon the … [Read more...]

La Push Beach, Washington- Quileute Oceanside Resort

Our ultimate destination was La Push, Washington specifically at the Quileute Oceanside Resort.  Our cabin (with a multitude of family) was literally a few steps from the beach.  The rock formations along the coast were amazing.  Our kids had a wonderful time walking the beach, playing in the sand, and rock hunting.  There were amazing drifted trees that had crashed upon the beach.  These trees are giants at over two stores tall. Who knew!? But apparently (as you can see from the giant bites on my son's head) mosquitoes love the beach … [Read more...]

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota- Painted Canyon

As you have probably all noticed, we are currently on vacation.  My family has trekked across the country from good ol'Minnesota all the way to the Pacific Ocean in Washington state.  We didn't have a chance to see much on our journey out west as we were meeting family on a particular date.  Instead we plan on see much more on our return journey.  But our one and only sightseeing opportunity on the way was to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.  The Painted Canyon is an easy rest stop along the way and the view is well worth it. The Badlands of North Dakota are well … [Read more...]

Staying Hydrated with Contigo

I have been compensated for this post, all opinions are my own.  (listening to ghost stories around the camp fire) Summer is in full swing and our family is busy traveling to numerous places on the weekends.  There are trips to the cabin, camping, sightseeing, and lots of hiking.  It's summer time in Minnesota!  We need to live it up while we can, because obviously another snowstorm really isn't that far away;) In between all these fun summer activities we are also living the daily grind.  I work from home.  It's awesome.  I can literally roll out of bed, take half a step, and … [Read more...]

A Minnesota Family Vacation Destination- Pehrson Resort & Lodge

My family recently went on a little mini vacation to celebrate the end of school. The endless rat race of the school year can be exhausting. There is nothing better than to take a little relaxing break to official start summer. Living in Minnesota there are an abundance of lakes and recreational opportunities- we are the Land of 10,000 Lakes! But my family chose to visit Pehrson Resort & Lodge on Lake Vermilion. This family-owned and operated resort provides a perfect setting to experience the wonder of Lake Vermilion. Our visit lasted exactly three nights and each night … [Read more...]

The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena Review (#DisneyOzEvent) (#LanghamPasadena)

photo courtesy of While in California for the premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful (which, you've all seen by now, right?) we had the opportunity to stay at the ultra luxurious The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena.   This property is so much more than just a hotel.  Situated on 23 acres this historic landmark includes restaurants, a Japanese garden, a pool, guest houses, a tennis court, and spa.  It is hard to believe, but the hotel is really just minutes from downtown L.A.  When you are at The Langham, you feel as though you are in your own exclusive … [Read more...]

Oz The Great and Powerful World Premiere- Red Carpet Experience at the El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

picture courtesy of Disney One of the most thrilling aspects of my time in LA for the #DisneyOzEvent was walking the red carpet at the premiere at the El Capitan Theatre.  The experience was a whirlwind to say the least.  We arrived just as Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Mila Kunis also happened to be arriving. Inadvertently we walked just behind them on the red carpet.  Yeah, it was amazing.  I've included a ton of pictures below, because that's what I would want to see:)  It is quite obvious which ones are mine and which were taken by Disney.  Somehow my iPhone camera just doesn't … [Read more...]

Embracing the Family Vacation

My husband and I have our parenting similarities and differences.   He is strict about everyone sitting at the table during supper and I am the enforcer of limiting TV and video game time.  He enjoys joining the boys in inappropriate table talk, while I shake my head in disgust.  I worry about my boys in a way my husband can't entirely understand, but he certainly respects. Even with all those differences there are a number of topics my husband and I have always agreed upon.  We believe our boys should be polite and respectful of other people.  We believe that safety is of the utmost … [Read more...]

TV & Movie On Location Tours in NYC & Boston Giveaway

New York City is a magical place any time of the year.  But during the Christmas season the city is especially festive.  Or so I've heard:)  I had a wonderful weekend in NYC this past April, and based on that short visit, I can't wait to return. There is so much to see and do.  My trip gave me a general sense of location and amazing places, but I certainly have a large must-see list upon my return. On my to-do list is a visit to some of the "hot" spots from some of my favorite New York City based TV shows and movies.  Do you love Sex and the City and Gossip Girl?  I do!  And the city … [Read more...]
