ITO EN Purveyor of Green Tea Review & Giveaway

Green tea has been known to benefit the body for centuries.  In other times they didn’t have all the technical information that we do now, including scientific evidence, but they still knew it was simply “good stuff”.

In our modern world we have been able to pinpoint those food items that are good for our bodies.  Here is some research which supports the health benefits of drinking tea.

+ Catechins are beneficial in neutralizing free radicals, which are known to cause a variety of diseases as well as aging and wrinkles. Free radicals increase by overexposure to ultraviolet rays, aging, smoking and heavy drinking. Green tea helps neturalize the “activated oxygen” and remove the damaging free radicals.

+ Anti-viral & Anti-bacterial properties: studies show that catechins may help boost the immune system to ward off viral infections and help with common cold symptoms. Gargling with green tea helps with sore throats and helps with overall good oral hygiene.

+ Helps with good cardio health and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by inhibiting the gathering of blood platelets

+ Has been shown to maintain cholesterol levels

+ Has been shown to reduce stress due to the amino acid- L Theanine, which has a calming effect.

ITO EN is a company dedicated to bringing authentic green tea to the United States.  We Americans have been known to change other cultures traditional items to suit our tastes.  However this change sometimes comes at the cost of health benefits.  ITO EN has a series of principles which help guide the company as a whole- Natural, Safe, Healthy, Well-Designed, and Delicious.  With those terms in mind they created an award winning line of authentically brewed and bottled RTD (Ready to Drink) green teas from unsweetened to classic sweetened flavors.  These convenient bottles make drinking tea on the go easy.

In addition to these bottled teas, ITO EN has also created a full line of traditional loose leaf teas.  From India, Japan, and China come a selection of top designed teas.  Each different creation has a variance in flavor and caffeine levels.  Check out the full selection.

I received Genmai Green for review.  It came in this handy little tin which I can easily slip into the refrigerator, as once it has been opened it needs to be refrigerated.  This tea is unique in the sense that it is not just green tea, but also contains roasted rice.

I am not a tea expert.  I have my personal favorites that I tend to stick to and green tea is not among them.  That being said, I was willing to give this tea a taste.

Check out this video to see the correct way to prepare Oolong Tea.

As the tea was seeping you could easily smell the aroma of roasted rice.  My husband and I found this a bit unusual as we are used to drinking more traditional teas.

The tea is quite obviously green!  My husband and I both gave it a taste.  We thought the flavor would be much stronger and we were surprised that the tea is actually quite mild.  That being said, the roasted rice tends to dominate the flavor of this tea and it was not to our liking.

To each their own!  It looks like I will be sticking to my traditional teas still:(  I do love a good chai, perhaps this Temple Chai would be better suited to my tastes.

Looking for a company that is more than about making money?  ITO EN is a supporter of  the Whole Planet Foundation (Whole Foods Market’s non-profit initiative) and is committed to socio-economic and planetary betterment from recycling of waste, to reuse of the elements of  production (such as making vending machines and park benches our of recycled tea).
