The Best of Clean Eating is a magazine dedicated to improving the quality of food you eat by providing simple nutritious recipes.  I had never heard of this magazine before I received this book to review.  I was worried that the recipes would have bizarre, hard to find items that I would not be motivated to cook.  Luckily this was not the case at all.  The Best of Clean Eating has recipes that are simple and use ingriedeints that you can find in a regular grocery store and probably even already have in your cupboard.

The idea behind Clean Eating is simple.  Use foods in their natural form.  This means no processed foods or anything that has been loaded with preservatives.  Simple, natural food.  Good ol’ home cooking if you need another name.  I took this quote from the Clean Eating website, “Eat foods that spoil but eat them before they do”- Nina Planck. Scientists and other experts state again and again how important it is too eat good foods.  Yet it is all too easy to pray victim to the easy, processed foods that are available EVERYWHERE.  I try to make suppers that contain clean foods at my house, as most of our meals are made from scratch.  Occasionally I will make a boxed dinner, but this is the exception not the norm. 

Once I realized that the recipes in The Best of Clean Eating were using straightforward ingredients I couldn’t wait to try some out.  There are many colorful photos in the book (thank goodness).  To me nothing is as depressing as a cookbook without colored pictures:)  My first recipe was “Turkey & Chickpea Burger”.  You can see the results below.  Doesn’t that look wonderful?  Indeed it was.  Simple to make and very satisfying.

My second recipes was “Stuffed Chicken with Vegetables & Lemon Basil Pasta”.  This recipe required a little bit more work (stuffing the chicken), but it was still super easy.

I am looking forward to trying other recipes from my book in the near future.  The Best of Cleaning Eating is MY kind of cookbook!
