The Mama Report Cooks Pioneer Woman Style Part II

Today I tried two more recipes from The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl. I only have one word to say about The Pioneer Woman this time- genius.  I made the Spicy Pulled Pork recipe first as this takes all day to cook.  The build up was amazing.  All day I smelled this wonderful aroma of cooked pork. Needless to say by the time it was ready I was waiting with fork in hand ready to pounce!  The most brilliant part of the recipe is at the end when you turn up the oven to make the outside of the pork crispy.  I love that!

The second recipe I made was her famous Chocolate Sheet Cake.  She has raved about this cake so I was excited to give it a try.  With buttermilk as an ingredient I was fairly confident it would make a great cake.  It seems like the best cakes I’ve made have buttermilk in them to add a moistness to the cake. Sure enough this cake was heaven.  It just melts in your mouth.  It is chocolate bliss, chocolate sensations, chocolate I want to eat all of you!  Okay I need to get a grip.  You get the idea anyway.  When The Pioneer Woman says and I quote “this cake causes moans and groans from anyone who takes a bite” she doesn’t lie. Here are a few pictures from my adventure.  I recommend retrieving a copy of the cookbook for yourself immediately:)

Here is the meat all spiced and ready for the oven.

Here is the finished product in my lovely cobalt blue Le Creuset about six hours later.

Yes, this is a marvelously large plate of pork.

Next comes the lovely cake.  It only has to cook a simple 20 minutes!

And here it is!  I wish you could taste this over the internet!
