Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 Potty Seat by Munchkin Review

In the mail last week, I received a pleasant surprise… An Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 potty seat made by Munchkin. Two of our three girls have been successfully potty trained. While it seemed to be a FOREVER long process at times and one that was frustrating, we did it! We have used a couple of potty seats in the past including the stand alone potty seat that has a lift out bowl for emptying purposes
and the soft toilet seat insert for training on a ‘real’ toilet. I think the preferable choice is the latter for those ‘weak-stomached’ Moms and Dads like myself. (As an aside, I can change diapers fine, but something about having to dump potty seat contents into a full-sized toilet causes me to gag. Perhaps it is the sound or perhaps it is the smell… or just a bit of both. )

Because both of my older daughters are trained, I feel that I am a qualified one to evaluate the Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 potty seat, plus I have one more daughter to train in the distant future!   My older daughters enjoyed testing the durability of the seat.

The seat performs 3 functions:

1) It works as a stool

2) It works as a stand-alone potty seat
3) It works as a toilet seat insert for a standard toilet

My absolute favorite part of the seat is the deodorizing packet that fits INSIDE the lid to help control odors. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I discovered that my daughter had used the potty, but she didn’t tell me. Ewww! The deodorizing packet is a super practical concept and long overdue. Thank you Arm & Hammer and Munchkin! By the way, you can order the refill packs for
$9.99/10 at Perhaps if the popularity picks up, they will be more readily available in other retail stores.

The other interesting aspect to the seat is the spot for the flushable wipes to “encourage proper hygiene”. While I agree this is an extremely important part of the process, I found the location of the wipes is not meant for little hands. Of course I realize that the seat has minimal storage opportunities, but I don’t see the practicality of the wipes being in the seat. Aside from it being difficult to load the
wipes (the plastic cover doesn’t slide on or off easily), most preschool-aged children do not have the dexterity to manage the wipes with one hand. I would suggest placing the wipes nearby and or using another brand of flushable wipes.

Something else I found to be a great feature is that the seat comes out to be used as an insert on a standard toilet. This is a great feature in my opinion because it allows for the quick conversion between the two variations. I would definitely prefer to place the seat on a standard toilet when my daughter has expressed the need to go potty to avoid the sound that I referred to earlier!

All-in-all, I think this is a great product with creative solutions.  Check out the Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 Potty Seat by Munchkin online or purchase from Target for $29.99
