Dr. Sears Family Essentials’ Baby Care Line Review

Dr. Sears Family Essentials’ Baby Care line was developed with the expertise of the Sears Family of Pediatricians, who have more than a century of medical knowledge combined.  Dr. Bill Sears, one of America’s most trusted pediatricians, has treated more than 500,000 babies and counting, and Dr. Jim Sears is the resident pediatrician on the hit show The Doctors.

Moms and celebrities alike love the line! Bethenny Frankel and baby Bryn are among the celebrity duos that have discovered the skincare secrets of Dr. Sears Family Essentials line of simple, safe and all-natural Baby Care products. The ultra-gentle and eco-friendly line uses only the purest ingredients with no harmful chemicals, ensuring the utmost protection of your little one’s precious skin.

Their shampoo is a gentle alternative to products with harsh chemicals in them; and many adults actually use the baby shampoos and lotion for themselves! The stretch mark cream is also a favorite among moms.

It can be challenging to find baby care products without harmful chemicals or allergens… products you can feel safe using to care for your infant. Dr. Sears Family Essentials has developed a 100% all natural baby care line.

Of course, I do worry about the application of chemicals to my children’s (not only my baby’s) skin and the effect of the chemicals on the environment. I am not fanatical about what products I buy. I buy what I like, what is on sale, and what feels right at the time. I find skin care products and other health and beauty aids to be a necessity. I like my ‘babies’ to smell clean, not like a flower garden or like a rainforest.

For review, we received several Dr. Sears Baby Care products including the Baby Wash and Shampoo, Baby Lotion, Healthy Baby Bottom, Diaper Rash Cream, Stretch Mark Cream, and Baby Wipes. The Baby Wash and Shampoo proved to be one of the most practical. The scent of the product was pleasant, but not overpowering (BIG bonus in my opinion). It did a nice job and did not irritate my children’s skin over several uses. To be fair, my children do not have sensitive skin in general. I cannot say if this product would be equally nonirritating for a child with sensitive skin.

Obviously, having an infant at home, I was able to put the diaper wipes to quick use. As far as diaper wipes go, they were exactly that. At a retail price of $2.99 for 72 wipes, I find that to be a bit pricey. The wipes boast being biodegradable, which I do agree is an important point, but hard to convince me for the long haul for a couple of reasons:

1) My diapering habit is to place the wipes inside of the diaper before neatly folding it for the trash. Any biodegradability of the product would be lost stuck inside of a non-biodegradable diaper, right? Of course, if you are one to use cloth diapers, this product may be a perfect choice. I have thought about using cloth diapers, but honestly, the idea of the really stinky ones is just too much for me… unless I had a service (which is not available in our area).

2) The other tough sell of this product is that we currently use Wal-Mart brand wipes which retail for $7.50 for over 350 wipes.

Try as I’d like, stretch marks do not disappear overnight and so far, the other products are all doing a fine job and the prices seem comparable to other ‘higher-end’ products with an added bonus of being all-natural and better for the environment.
