HALO Safe Sleep Crib Set Review

I remember that first night in the hospital the day my daughter was born like it was yesterday, even though it was already 5 years ago.  I opted to have her sleep in the room with me, instead of having her go to the nursery.  As she lay in her little bassinet next to my bed, I think I slept with one eye open the entire night, just to keep an eye on her and make sure she was safe.  As parents, there is nothing more important than ensuring that our infants stay safe while they sleep. After we brought her home from the hospital, I was always very careful to make sure there was nothing in her crib that would pose a hazard to her.

Like most parents, I had purchased a bedding set for her crib.  Of course, in order to purchase the coordinating sheet and crib skirt, you had to also purchase the crib bumpers and the matching quilt.   Even 5 years ago, most advice out there stated that you should not use crib bumpers and quilts in an infant’s crib, as they could pose a breathing threat.  So I made the decision not to use those two items.  Because I am a conservative spender, and really hate having to spend money on items that I won’t use, I was very aggravated by the fact that in order to purchase a coordinating bedding set, you have to pay for these items that most experts were telling you that you should not use.  What a waste!

Fast-forward 5 years, and I am anxiously awaiting the birth of our second child, a boy, any day now.  My philosophy on safe sleep has not changed.  Now my philosophy has been validated by the American Academy of Pediatrics, who recently officially said “no” to crib bumpers.  But still, when shopping for bedding, it seemed like the same old bedding sets were out there which included the unusable crib bumpers.  Except for HALO Innovations!  You are most likely familiar with the HALO SleepSack, which has been around for a few years now.  It is essentially a “wearable blanket” that provides a great way to keep your infant warm and safe as he or she sleeps.  Now from the makers of the SleepSack,  HALO Innovations has introduced a new five-piece HALO Safe Sleep Crib Set.

The HALO Safe Sleep Crib Set consists of a HALO SleepSack wearable blanket, SleepSack Swaddle, both in 100% cotton; two coordinating crib sheets in soft cotton jersey; and a matching crib skirt.  Notice I did not mention an unusable quilt or unusable crib bumpers!  You only pay for what you will actually use, and your baby is assured to be safe while sleeping.

I chose the “My Dog Sam” pattern for my little boy, but they have several other beautiful patterns available for the five-piece set.  I washed the sheets immediately upon receiving them, and I could not believe how incredibly soft they were!  They were also very well made, and I am sure they will stand up to many frequent washings.  They fit very snugly on my standard-size crib mattress.  The SleepSack and the SleepSack Swaddle (which is a SleepSack that also includes a Velcro-fastened wrap to swaddle your newborn) also washed very nicely and will get a lot of use in our household once our little boy decides to make his debut into the world.

I was extremely impressed by this five-piece HALO Safe Sleep Crib Set.  It is adorable, well-made, and most importantly I know it will keep my baby safe while he sleeps.  This gives me great piece of mind, and thus maybe will help me get a little extra sleep in the process!

The new HALO Safe Sleep Crib Sets are available on Amazon and come in six patterns including pink, blue and neutral tones.
