Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company Review

I remember when Jessica Alba first started to become popular, my first impression was that she would be a one or two movie hit.  I’m sorry to say that I didn’t think she had any lasting power in the movie industry nor did it appear to me that she had a lot of depth.  Boy, was I wrong.

In recent months I have had the pleasure of understanding this actress on a better level.   Back in August of last year, I had the chance to interview Jessica along with some other fellow Mommy bloggers.   Again I’m ashamed to admit, but I thought she would be maybe not so intelligent.  That isn’t very kind is it?  But my thinking was that she was a movie star, not a “real” person.  Well, of course this is not true at all.  Jessica is a real person- a mother, wife, daughter who has interests and passions that go beyond movie making.   Based on this interview my whole perception of Jessica changed.  I came to understand that she is a committed mother who really takes the time to think through the best options for her family.  She doesn’t believe in feeding into the “Hollywood” culture for her family and works to ensure that her daughters have a great deal of respect for the world around them.

It is with this deep appreciation for the world around her and a concern for others that Jessica Alba started The Honest Company with co-founder Christopher Gavigan.  With other moms as her target audience she hopes to make it easy to find and use the best products available.  I received a large number of products for review purposes.  My items included a trial size sampling of household products (laundry detergent, shampoo & body wash, healing balm, face & body lotion, and hand soap), a full size bottle of dish soap and bubble bath, and also a trial size diapers pack with wipes.   Yep, my whole house was transformed into a Honest Company makeover.

As an overall assessment of the products I was very pleased.  As a general rule with many organic and natural items I am concerned about performance.   Sure it might be safe to use, but it also needs to be effective.   All the different products I used worked just as well as any chemically induced items.  I loved, loved, loved the bubble bath.  Just prior to receiving my package I was looking for a safe, non-toxic bubble bath for my boys.  I was delighted by this product.  Not only did it provide amble bubbles for bath time, but it did so without any harsh chemicals.

I also used the lotion on my body and face as suggested.  I was a little skeptical about how this lotion would perform on my face.  Almost any kind of lotion will work on my body, but I am a bit more particular about facial lotion.  Luckily, it worked great on my face as well as the rest of my body.

The product I was most curious about were the diapers.  I have used a variety of diapers in over seven years.  I am definitely no novice diaper user.  From Huggies, to Pampers, to generic brands, Luvs, cloth diapers, environmentally safe diapers- if you can name it, I’ve probably used it.  I wasted no time putting my first diaper to the ultimate test- nighttime.  Can the diaper withstand the entire night?  At over two years old, I do not change my son’s diaper in the middle of the night.  I require diapers that will leave him dry in the morning hours.  Too many times I’ve had diapers leak only to discover a soiled mess in the morning.  I assume this happens to most mothers.

I am happy to report that the Honest Co. diapers passed the test!  They are indeed quality diapers and receive my official stamp of approval.  Over the course of a couple of days I used the diapers only to find absolutely zero problems with them.  They are definitely the best eco-friendly diapers I have ever used and they also rival normal conventional diapers. They work well, its as simple as that.  Plus they are adorable.  In the seven plus years I’ve been using diapers they all look the same.  These diapers were fun, with cute designs.  Sometimes its the small things that can brighten our day!

Check out these cute options!

So how do you purchase The Honest Co. products?  You’re not going to find them in stores.  Instead you fill out a small questionnaire based on your needs and lifestyle.  This will help determine which products the company recommends you receive.  However, ultimately the choice is yours as to which products you will receive.  Each month your items will simply arrive at your doorstep!  As a SAHM I am able to shop mid-week for the products my family needs, but I imagine many working mothers would love this option.  In fact I believe many new working mothers concerned about using products that are eco-friendly and organic will love this service.

They even have a price comparison to see the prices associated with leading natural products and leading conventional brands.  For a mother on the go with many responsibilities and “to-do” lists, The Honest Company can provide non-toxic, chlorine-free, sustainable products that are good for the environment and safe for families.  I envision continued success for Jessica Alba and her new line of products from The Honest Company.
