I’ve confessed this fact before, but I’ll state the obvious again- cleaning is not high on my priority list. That being said, I do like an orderly, clean life- therefore clean I must. It’s one of those necessary evils in life.
One of my most detested tasks is oven cleaning. Yes, I’m one of those people that lets all those little droppings turn into a big mess. It’s just so easy to make a mess in the oven and not even be entirely aware of the problem. It’ll all burn off, right? Wrong! The oven, just like any other appliance within your house need a good cleaning every now and then. (By the way, if you are one of those people who keeps your oven impeccably clean at ALL times- I just can’t relate to you)
I’ve used my fair share of oven cleaning products. And it’s only been in our recent house that I actually have a working “self-cleaning” oven. But guess what? Self cleaning isn’t entirely self-cleaning. I have a sad confession to make- I found this out the hard way. I used the self cleaning function on my oven and then never touched the insides. I didn’t understand I actually had to clean out the inside too. I kept wondering what all that ugly gray stuff was on the bottom of my oven? Hmmm…clearly not my brightest moment. But I blame my previous use of toxic filled, fume induced cleaners that made me want to never touch an oven cleaning product again. In our first home I became light headed and nauseous trying to clean our oven with a standard cleaner. It was awful. In fact it was so bad, I just didn’t clean my oven again until we moved out. Yeah, that’s a whole level of avoidance people.
As we’ve established here’s my problem– I need to keep my oven clean, I don’t want to physically scrub or power wash, and I don’t want nasty fumes that cause me to see into outer space.
Needless to say I was a little nervous trying Easy-Off, even though it is the # 1 Oven Cleaner. I’ve been scarred by the process. Ugh, what was I setting myself up for?
Here’s the skinny on Easy-Off-
- Powerful formula eliminates baked-on grease and food spills
- 5x more grease-cutting power than the leading all-purpose cleaner
- Two different formulas to fit your needs:
- For convenient cleans use Heavy Duty – it cuts through the toughest grease in less than 5 minutes
- Fume Free is safe to use in your self-cleaning ovens and emits no caustic fumes
For the record here is the state of my oven before my experiment with Easy-Off.
Since I technically want to spend zero time cleaning my oven, I was hopeful that Easy-Off would require as minimal amount of work as possible.
I used the fume free version on my oven. And for the record, fume free is not fragrance free. After I sprayed the cleaner I was ready for an obnoxious wave of smells to hit me, but instead I distinctly smelt lemon. If you happen to look on the picture above, there is a nice little picture of a lemon. I missed that part during my use. Therefore I found the lemon scent to be very surprising. It was not overpowering, but yet it was distinctly lemon.
After spraying the oven area thoroughly, I started wiping out the guck. Mind you I did not scrub. I did not use elbow grease. I did not put effort of any kind, other than a simple swipe of the paper towel.
This is what came out of my oven. It’s gross. I’m sorry I shared this picture with you. But I’m just keeping it real.
After about three minutes of wiping this is what appeared. I can have a clean oven, who knew!:)
I consider myself that much closer to a spring cleaned house. Or maybe I’ll be so content with my clean stove I won’t technically spring clean at all.
If your oven is in need of a little sprucing up purchase one of the multiple varieties of Easy-Off available at your local Walmart store. Once you’ve cleaned your oven, I guarantee you’ll feel very accomplished:)
I received the above mentioned product for review purposes, all opinions are my own.
