For those of us who are of Generation X (I guess I just dated myself, huh?), Lisa Loeb is synonymous with her 1994 hit, “Stay”. For the record, I own the Reality Bites soundtrack and I’ve watched that film more than I would care to admit. It was a great move, at the time, when Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder were the thing, but I digress.
Lisa Loeb has been busy since then, releasing numerous albums and also starting a family. Throughout that time her iconic glasses and distinct voice have a remained a part of our collective experience. And now she has release a new book/CD that celebrates many classic children’s songs.
Children’s music can be painful. I know I’m not the only parent who has had to suffer through a high pitched child or adult singing a painful rendition of Yankee Doodle. That isn’t how music should be. Just because children have little ears, doesn’t mean we should be subjecting them to bad singing. Classic children’s songs are timeless, because they are catchy, dance-able, and easy to remember. Lisa Loeb has taken many songs that we are familiar with, but provided her own Lisa twist including a number of original songs. Her collection is also distinct as she has a book providing lyrics and illustrations to the songs. My children love this!
I love music books that provide ways to enhance the song and well created illustrations are always a plus!
My boys’ favorite was this Monster Stomp song. Anything “monster” is guaranteed to be well received at my house!
This book is a perfect way to integrate music into your child’s book collection. Here is the official scoop.
This spectacularly fun songbook will get kids off the sofa—guaranteed! Singer Lisa Loeb will have kids movin’ and groovin’ with her sparkling second collection of songs, activities, and recipes—plus a CD with five all-time children’s favorites and another five original tunes. It’s sure to stir up some fun, as budding musicians discover the joys of playing in an air band (“Turn it Down”); see how to face down scary creatures (“Monster Stomp”); and practice relaxing yoga poses (“Hello, Today”). Ryan O’Rourke’s whimsical illustrations light up Lisa’s lyrics—and will delight young readers, movers, and shakers.
Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’: The Air Band Song and Other Toe-Tapping Tunes is currently available for purchase and would make a perfect present for kid’s of various ages.
Three lucky Mama Report readers will win Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’ CD!
