We love books at our house.  I can be assured that any new book I bring into the house will be carefully studied by my three children.  I was a little worried about my youngest, it took him a while to catch on to the joy of reading.  But I am happy to say that at 17 months he now loves to read.  He will frequently bring me a book and give me that pleading look.  I am almost always willing to oblige.

We received Twelve Rounds to Glory, In the Wild, and Falling Hard to review.  Twelve Rounds to Glory tells the amazing story of Muhammad Ali through poetry.  There is a lot of writing on each page and only my eldest son at age six was able to hold interest in this one.  I would definitely recommend it for older children.  Muhammad Ali is such an interesting guy and this book does a great job of describing the story of his life through poetry.  Here is my eldest checking it out.

Falling Hard is a collection of love poems from teenagers.  I know what you’re thinking.  Sure some of the poems are sappy, but there are many that are beautiful.  I am not a poetry writer and it is amazing what young minds can create.  I was touched by quite a few lovely ones.  This one comes from Lili Martinez age 14- “i will put on a dress and spin into the lake, float down, down in the peaceful swirling water and land on the bottom and lie on the rocks for the eternity of a kiss”.

In the Wild was easily my children’s favorite.  Actually my middle son, age 3, picked this story again and again, but I was not annoyed as it is a fun book to read.  The poems are very simple and the pictures are wonderful.  My middle son loves all the different animals in the book.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with young kids.  It is an easy, fun way to introduce poetry.
