Oz The Great And Powerful Blu-ray Combo Pack Review

I received the movie below for review purposes, all opinions are my own.

oz the great and powerful

I seems unreal, but Oz The Great and Powerful is nearly available on DVD and Blu-ray.  Just this past February I had the opportunity to travel to LA as a guest of Disney to attend the premiere of this magical film.  It was amazing to see the movie in the historical El Capitan Theatre with the actors of the movie.  Obviously it is much more normal for me to watch movies at home curled up with a snug blanket in my pajamas:)  And thanks to Disney once again, I have the chance to watch this film from the comfort of home whenever I want.  Oz The Great and Powerful will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 11th.

Having had an opportunity to interview all the stars of the film, it was especially fun to revisit the Land of Oz.  Knowing a bit more about the behind the scenes stories than when I first saw the film, I was able to view the movie a little differently.  Just as with any film, re-watching scenes leads to discovering new things you didn’t even notice before.

Film Synopsis:

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot. Fame and fortune are his for the taking. That is until he meets three witches: Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.  Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late.  Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity and even a bit of wizardry, Oscar transforms himself not only into a great wizard but into a better man as well.

Of course one of the best parts is being able to share the experience with my children.  They love the floating bubbles and find James Franco to be hilarious as Oz.  The witches within the film are fun and the flying monkeys are scary making the movie best suited for children eight and older.  Though we did let my almost six year old watch the Blu-ray with us.  We find that movies aren’t quite as intense from the comfort of home as they are in the movie theater.

I find myself completely enthralled with the costumes of the leading ladies.  I had the opportunity to see a couple of these dresses in real life and they were divine…..very small, but divine:)  Check out the feature below with information regarding these extraordinary costumes.

  • Bloopers
  • Walt Disney and the Road to Oz

My personal favorite are the bloopers!  I love seeing the actors mess up and act silly as themselves:)
