Sight Words, a new DVD program from Rock ‘N Learn, helps kids learn to read. Using fun music and exciting characters, kids learn to read over 60 words. These are the most common words used in the English language and are words kids need to know automatically. This program is perfect for parents with very young kids who appear advanced and eager to learn, as well as older students with remedial needs. It’s effective at helping kids learn to read at all ages. Developed along with four reading specialists having combined classroom experience of over 50 years, Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words is designed to hold the interest of kids and get results. A bonus section helps kids practice their spelling skills and focus on the shapes of words. The program engages kids to participate along with the fun characters. Approximately 50 minutes in length, it’s most effective when kids watch again and again. Before too long, they are reading the sight words with ease.
The girls have really enjoyed being the subjects of many of the reviews I’ve been asked to do over the past couple of months since saying ‘Yes’ to “Mama”. .. One of the most recent packages that arrived included a DVD from Rock’N Learn, Inc. Rock ‘N Learn carries several different DVD’s, CD’s, and books covering a wide-range of topics including the alphabet, colors and shapes, as well as science, math, and social studies. The DVD we received, Sight Words, is geared towards children PreK and up.
I was really excited to see how my two older girls would react to the DVD. My oldest is heading into 1st grade and already knows most of the sight words on this DVD. My 3 year old has mastered her letters fairly well, but has not started to put letters together into words.
The DVD was cute and it was fun to watch our oldest read the sight words to her younger sister. The company states that the DVD is designed to be watched repeatedly for the most impact. I can absolutely see how repeated exposure to the words will provide the most advantage.
While I think the DVD is well-made and has its’ advantages, I still believe that teaching a child to read is best done with a snuggle, a book, and a few minutes. I find that reading with my children is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable times. But for those moments when I’m making dinner or working on some other task I can know that they are watching something worthwhile with Rock ‘N Learn.
