Shaklee Scour Off Review

I love the idea of a nontoxic cleaner.  Continued evidence only proves that ingesting harsh chemicals is not good for your body and could potentially cause major problems.  I previously put a variety of Shaklee products to the test, read that review here.   Now it was time to test Scour Off.

  • Natural ingredients remove the toughest dried-on splatters and spills, burned-on grease, baked-on food, and sticky messes without hazardous chemicals or toxic fumes.
  • Scour Off is made from natural mineral abrasives and biodegradable cleaning agents. It does not contain chlorine, bleach, or dye.
  • Scour Off gently removes stains other cleansers can’t and is great for cleaning tubs, ovens, sinks, and tiles.
  • It will even remove rust, and is great for cleaning these surfaces: copper, grout, cement, ceramic, and imitation marble.
  • Wide-mouth jar makes it easy to use.

I decided to give this product the ultimate test- my oven.  It is a neglected appliance.  Sure, I use it on a regular basis, but I hardly ever clean it.  It is too messy and requires way to much work, plus the products that I have used to clean it in the past have left me with a headache.

Clearly my oven is in need of some TLC.

While I knew I could count on this Shaklee product to be nontoxic and therefore much easier to work with, I was skeptical at how it would perform getting all the cooked-on food off.  Using a sponge, as directed, I lathered the area with the scrub.  I didn’t actually do much scrubbing.  Before I would push, press, and tire myself out try to get my oven clean.  I didn’t want to scrub.  I wanted to see what Scour Off could do without so much effort.  I did wash over the area with sponge and then wipe out the cleaner with a paper towel.

This was the result.

It isn’t perfect, but it is pretty darn clean!  If I had actually scrubbed and put some muscle into it, I’m sure those few areas would have come clean.   But I was satisfied.  I don’t expect my oven to be perfectly clean, so I didn’t bother scrubbing.  If I can get the oven this clean without inhaling toxic chemicals I am satisfied.   The cleaner wasn’t entirely odorless, as it had a faint smell.  Based on my previous experience I was amazed that a product could work this well, without stinking up the entire kitchen.  Like any cleaner I would recommend heating your oven before cooking something in it again as some of the cleaning residue might be left inside. However since this is a safe cleaning product your food is potentially even healthier since it isn’t exposed to toxic chemicals.
