I grew up dutifully brushing my teeth every morning and evening. This is the tried and true practice of most of us. I attempt to instill the same routine in my children, though manning three little guys can be a handful. Ultimately they have to brush themselves most of the time. As a mother I worry about how well they are brushing. As little boys they rush their brushing in order to have more time to play.
I was surprised to find that chewing sugar free gum is a great way to help prevent cavities. Did you know this? I must admit I wasn’t in the loop. I would guiltily give my children sugar free fum to chew on various occasions. But it turns out I was actually helping their oral health. Check out this NY Times article that delves into this important topic.
Of course, the key in this message is SUGAR FREE. Any benefits are completely expelled with sugar filled gum. This should be quite obviously, but I wanted to make a distinct notation.
According to a survey by Trident, tooth decay affects approximately half of all second graders and nearly 80 percent of 17-year-olds, but more than 84 percent of American parents don’t realize this.
