Classic Looney Tunes Characters Feature a Contemporary Look Appealing to a New Generation of Viewers
Voice Talent Includes Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig
What happens when Bugs Bunny and all his legendary Looney Tunes pals undergo a 21st century makeover?
The result is The Looney Tunes Show, a hilarious new animated comedy series from Warner Bros. Animation which premiered in May on Cartoon Network and is now being released on DVD September 27, 2011, by Warner Home Video (WHV).
In The Looney Tunes Show, screen icons Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck return in this all-new modern comedy series, joined by fan-favorite Looney Tunes characters. Bugs and Daffy haven’t changed — but their living situation has. Bugs is as brazen, sarcastic and ahead-of-the-game as ever, and Daffy, despite his narcissistic, sociopathic and paranoid tendencies, is Bugs’ best friend and seemingly permanent houseguest. No longer confined to seven-minute shorts, their larger-than-life personalities (and egos) offer an irreverent, comical take on our modern world and introduce a whole new realm of possibilities. Now Bugs and Daffy can wreak as much havoc at the grocery store or the DMV as they once did in the forest.
Rounding out the cast are Porky Pig, Lola, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, the Tasmanian Devil, Marvin the Martian, Tweety, Sylvester, Granny, Gossamer and the newest character of the bunch, Daffy’s no-nonsense girlfriend, Tina. The series also features Merrie Melodies — animated music videos of original songs spotlighting everyone from Elmer Fudd to Pepe Le Pew — plus all new adventures with the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote in stunning CG.
“The Looney Tunes Show Season 1 Volume 1 brings classic Looney Tunes to a brand-new generation of viewers and, while it stays true to the original cartoon, the look of the characters has been streamlined and updated with cutting-edge animation for a fresh and contemporary feel,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, WHV Executive Director Non-Theatrical Franchise. She added, “These characters have been with us for decades and it’s wonderful to see them continue evolving. We think both classic Looney Tunes aficionados and newer viewers will embrace The Looney Tunes Show. It’s a must-have DVD for anyone who appreciates great animation.”

Like many Generation Xer’s I grew up watching Bugs Bunny and all the other wacky and loveable characters from Looney Tunes. I have distinct memories as a kid watching the show with my mom. My mother was not what I would call a cartoon fan, but she loved it. I’m not quite sure what it was, but I know her favorite sketch was the road runner and Wil E. Coyote.
My children were not familiar with the show prior to viewing this DVD. We have a couple of books from my youth that include Bugs Bunny, but we do not read them on a regular basis. My four year old had an opportunity to view the DVD first. He loved it! After watching we had a whole conversation regarding the characters.
Son- Mom, there this duck and this rabbitt….
Me- You mean Donald Duck and Bugs Bunny?
Son- giggles…Bugs Bunny is funny. That’s a silly name.
Me- It is a silly name.
Son- And there this fox chasing a bird.
Me- You mean Wil E. Coyote and the Roadrunner?
Son- Yeah, there’s this fox chasing this roadrunner, but he never catches it. That’s silly.
Me- It isn’t a fox, sweetie, it’s a coyote and yes, it is silly.
Son- And there’s this alien.
Me- You mean Marvin the Martian. That’s Daddy’s favorite.
Son- He doesn’t talk……
Me- I know. Isn’t that weird.
Needless to say he was amazed and has asked to watch it several times since then. I could just see his little mind working taking in all the characters and trying to make sense of it all. The comic value was not lost on him. This DVD is different from the Looney Tunes of my youth. This is an updated version. While people of my generation might enjoy viewing the original episodes, today’s children have different expectations. I completely understand the necessity of modernizing the show. But something is lost for me. The voices are not the same and the look is different. However this show really isn’t for me or my generation. It is about todays youth. My children love it and I had a great time discussing the characters with them.
The Looney Tunes Show Season One Volume One is available from KidsWB for $9.95.
