Zippies Review & Giveaway

Silly Bandz are out and Zippies are in. New Zippies “the pals that hang around” are becoming the nation’s next kids’ craze. These round flexible characters help children to identify their things by simply clipping them onto any belonging — water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks, jackets, and even bicycles. Each collectible Zippies ID tag features a different character on one side with a place for contact information on the other.

Zippies give kids a fun and easy way to keep track of their stuff while parents rest assured that emergency contact information (last name and parent’s phone number) is with them at all times. Use the rubber loop – or detach it to clip the pal on a key ring. They can even help prevent the spread of germs by identifying water bottles and teach children the importance of being responsible for personal belongings. These kid collectibles can also prevent constant arguments over their belongings.

Available in 10 different characters, such as a walrus, Wally, or frog, Faina, Zippies sell for $3.99 each, $15.95 for a five pack or $29.95 for the entire limited-edition first series. They can be ordered online at and found at select retailers.

Zippies are the latest fun reviewable product we received in the mail. My girls (ages 6 & 4) took an immediate interest in the product and started asking many questions. First, of course, “What are these?” My oldest quickly realized that they had a blank space on the back and surmised that was for her name (although, of course, it could be used for emergency contact information or a phone number as well). Then the girls were asking “Where can we put them?” and “Who were they for?”

My oldest really studied the faces of the Zippies and commented on how some look rather mean or angry.  Here is an example of a designed named Chip.

I thought this was an ironic observation as I had been thinking the same thing earlier in the day. Maybe the mean face is to scare off anyone who might be thinking about swiping their gear? Hmmm… or maybe not.
My younger daughter was more intrigued at finding places to use them. The first place she tried was her backpack of course!

I thought that the construction of the Zippies is nicely done. I like the fact that the opening to the clip can be covered by another part of the Zippie to help reduce the risk of the Zippie coming off of the bottle or bag. She also found the Zippies to be great fun to hook to each other or to switch the ‘parts’ of the Zippie around meaning she’d use the pink face part and the blue clip part.

Another interesting thing about the Zippies. The website has a catchy little tune. Why not check them out at ? Here you can also see the description of the different varieties of Zippies as well as more information.
