Behold the Mysterious at Ripley’s Believe It or Not in the Wisconsin Dells

I have been compensated for this content, all opinions are my own.

Ripley’s is the stuff of little boys’ dreams. Full of mystery, amazing artifacts, historical items, and even just plain gross things, I’ve never been to a place quite like this. Ripley’s claims to have everything odd, weird, and unbelievable, this is certainly true. Last summer we visited the Ripley’s Believe It or Not site in the Wisconsin Dells for the first time. It was so much fun. I can’t deny I was as dazzled as the kids. I had never been to a place like this before. The museum is divided into different galleries focused on different points of mystery and horror.

A few of the different sections include a shark gallery, vampire gallery, medieval torture gallery, and an Indian Jones like section titled “Temple of Discovery”. The lighting is dim through out most of the museum to enhance the mood. During our visit we moved through each section with fascination and a sense of wonder. Just like the Ripley’s books, you can’t help to turn each page to be slightly appalled, disgusted, and stunned. The same is true when visiting the museum.

One of the best parts is the secret passageways located in various sections. Step into the fireplace in the vampire part and climb a spiral staircase to a secret room of interesting items.

I felt like Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom in a giant area with corridors leading to different rooms with distinct symbols. This “Temple of Discovery” is attempting to mimic the famous films and does a fabulous job. Finding the hidden symbol in each room uncovered a secret path or item. And in the giant room manipulating the symbols creates a rumbling, Earth shaking experience.

The gift shop at the end of the Odditorium has fun novelties for purchase including lots of Ripleys books, my oldest son’s favorite.

We’ve never had the opportunity to visit a Ripleys in a different location, but I know based on our Dells experience we’d love to see them.

If you are in the Wisconsin Dells area with kids, I highly advise visiting Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Actually let me confess, even if you don’t have kids check out Ripleys. It’s fun for young and old alike!

Have you visited Ripley’s in the Wisconsin Dells or another location?

I have been to a couple of other Ripley’s before and they are so much fun! It’s always fun for the kids 🙂

  2. I did one of these in San Antonio when I was a kid… Scared. The. Snot. Out. Of. Me. Seriously. They had a monster themed section and if you opened the wrong door, stuff would jump out at you and screech… I’m still traumatized! Yet, when I think back to that trip, it’s what I remember the most fondly and the most vividly. This post just tugged at my heartstrings a bit. Thank you for sharing! – Jerusha,

  3. We try to go to Ripley’s every time we’re in a city that has one. My girls really love all the cool exhibits.

  4. I went to the one in London — I thought it was a bit cheesy but good fun. I didn’t have kids then, and I’m sure they would enjoy it now. My husband is from Wisconsin and often talks about Wisconsin Dells…that made me smile 🙂

  5. We go to the Dells once a year, and I have gone since I was a little girl. The Ripley’s was always a super fun place to visit, even though some of the statues and figurines freak me out a little bit.

  6. oh, how fun! My family and I always enjoy going to RBION! We have one in our city…great photos!

  7. This is just the kind of place my oldest two would have loved when they were little. I think they would probably even like it now. 🙂

  8. I’ve been to the one in Pigeon Forge a couple of times and it is so much fun! I highly recommend it for everyone at least once!

We love watching the Ripley’s on TV. Looks like you had fun. Would love to visit this one day.

  10. I haven’t been to Ripley’s in about 20 years. They’ve updated it so much. I went to the one in Hollywood a few times. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon.

  11. My kids would be so pumped to see the wonders and oddities. This sounds like such a cool place.

  12. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun! I grew up going to the Dells but have never been to Ripleys.

  13. I’ve been to the Ripley’s in Orlando, but it has been a long time. I have always wanted to visit the Wisconson Dells.

  14. OM Gosh this brings back such great memories I remember as a child visiting Ripley’s and loving it. This is a great reminder and I am going to plan an outing with my grandchild there.

Been into a Ripley’s museum 15 years ago. By looking at your photos, I can tell that there’s a huge upgrade from then to now. Awesome!

  16. Ripley’s is a great museum. The boys and I have been to our local one before. It was a great experience.
